Consider this!

Many of the sporting camps in Maine are located in areas that are convenient to at least towns where you can purchase supplies and materials.  Others are much further back in the woods, and a bit remote or away from major economic centers.   Convenient does not mean just around the corner for the most part, although there are sporting camps that are quite close to towns.  "Further back" in the woods can mean many different things.

On your first trip to a camp that you are considering purchasing, take note of the amount of time it takes to get to the camp.  If you do not, you may end up thinking that it takes much longer to get there than it actually does.  This is normal.  Just think of some place that you have gone to for the first time, and how it seemed to take forever to get there.  After a trip or two you begin to recognize landmarks and all of a sudden it is not really that far after all.  Taking awhile to get to a camp just makes the "getting" there all the more sweet.  People are coming to get away from it all and enjoy a slower lifestyle, even if it is for just a few days or a week or two.

If you are a camp owner, be sure to give accurate and descriptive directions from the nearest major town or city.  See the paragraph below for some ideas of what folks are going to be looking for.

Ask the camp owner about how many miles it is in to camp and if possible, miles between major turns if any.  If you have never been to the camp before this will be a great confidence builder while heading in for the first time.  With today's modern technology marvel, the GPS, traveling to many places becomes much easier.  Just be sure to get directions from the camp owner as some of the mapping software was developed by people who do not understand that just because a map shows a road, it does not mean that an automobile can actually travel on it!  Road systems change frequently in the Maine woods due to logging and ownership of certain parcels.

Part of the allure of  sporting camps is that they are not located in the middle of everything!  If you want to be in the middle of town you need a motel, not a sporting camp.  Sporting camps are destinations in their own right.  They have been operating since the 1800's and are a very important part of life for many people.  For many of your guests, it is a time to recharge their internal batteries and let the stress drain from their bodies.

As a sporting camp owner you will be living and working in a spot that others only dream about, or visit for their vacation.  Just imagine going to sleep each night during the summer listening to the loons call out on the water.  An early morning walk while listening to the birds as they awake sure is a better way to start the day as compared to listening to automobiles, sirens and other city noises!  When was the last time that while working at your current job you looked out and saw the wildlife that you will see while working at your sporting camps?
Isn't it time for you to make the change to live your dream!
